Modern Halloween

Present day Halloween differs greatly from the way Halloween use to be celebrated. Two thousand years ago, on October 31, the Celts celebrated Samhain, when it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth. During this time, the Celts would cause trouble and damage crops, but they also believed that with the spirits walking the earth, that the priests would have an easier time predicting the future. Costumes are from both European and Celtic cultures. People would be afraid to leave their houses on October 31 because of the belief of ghosts. They would wear masks so that the ghosts wouldnʼt recognize them.

Nowadays, we celebrate Halloween a little differently, but still with the traditions passed down through the centuries. Modern Halloween focuses mainly on the children dressing up and going trick-or-treating. But there are so many fun and interesting things to do on Halloween. You have pumpkin carving, ghost tours, costume parties, bonfires, telling scary stories, and watching horror movies. If you are in the habit of camping out in front of the television watching horror movies with some friends, or your child is having a sleep over on Halloween, then you must check out the Haunting Halloween Basket. This basket is chock full of yummy treats to eat throughout the night. From the Crunchie Munchies, to the full size candy bars, and Jack Blackʼs Dead Red Root Beer, this gift is stupendous for late night movie watching.

Which Witch?

Witches have always been associated with Halloween. Legends about witches say that they get together twice a year, on April 30 and October 31, and cast spells on innocent people and cause other magical mischief. Halloween is believed to be an opening to the spirit world, when people could communicate with the dead. Spooky!

Nowadays, the only witches that we really see are the ones going door to door to get candy from the neighbors. There is one witch that is really nice and has fresh baked cookies for you or a friend, the Mrs. Fields® Witch Cookie Jar. A very delightfully spooky gal with her ghost friends hanging around, just waiting for you to take her fresh baked mini cookies, brownies and frosted sugar cookies. Yummy, this is one delicious way to celebrate on Halloween.
